He started playing drums as an autodidact. He had his first lessons with drummer Sérgio Murilo in his hometown, Niterói, RJ. Also studied classical percussion at
Villa Lobos School of Music in Rio de Janeiro, with the teachers Edgard Nunes Rocca (Bituca), Claudio José Das Neves and Hugo Tagnin. He was a member of the percussion group from the same school, winning awards in interscholastic contests, as an integral and also as a soloist. In 1977 he joined the “Symphonic Orchestra of the Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro” (OSTM), staying there for four (4) years. Shortly thereafter, he joined the group of Hermeto Pascoal, who plays today, recording and excurssionando throughout Brazil and abroad.
Parallel to work with the group, is also an integral of the “Hamilton de Holanda Quintet”, there are six (6) years. Played with many foreign musicians of great projection, as Mike Del Ferro, David Friedman, Jan Akkerman, Eliane Elias, NDR Big Band (Hamburg, Germany), WDR Big Band (Cologne, Germany), Kluvers Big Band (Auhus, Denmark) and the Norwegian Wind Ensemble (Halden, Norway). Vittor Santos Orchestra (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), among others.
Also played with great names of Brazilian music, such as Roberto Menescal, Wanda Sá, Oscar Castro Neves, Johnny Alf, Marcos Valle, Leny Andrade, Joyce, Leila Pinheiro, Carlos Lira, João Donato, Maria Bethania, Zelia Duncan, John Bosco, Djavan, Ivan Lins, among others.
Has developed over the years working as an educator, teaching, workshops, master classes and courses battery. at various schools and universities in Brazil and abroad. Taught in the following places: “Summer School of Music School of Brasília” (three years), “Summer Workshops Curitiba” (two years), “Workshops Pirenópolis,” GO, Brazil, “Meeting Panamericano Percussion “São Paulo, Brazil,” University School of Music “(Montevideo, Uruguay),” Consevatório Music Cologne “Germany,” Consevatório of Music Nuremberg, “Germany,” New Orleans University, “USA,” Loyola University , USA, “Cal Arts University” USA, “California Brazil Camp”, Cazadero, CAL, USA, “Conservatory of Music Tatuí”, SP, Brazil.
Currently sa dedicated to the realization of the first solo work with “Marcio Bahia Quintet”, entitled “Breaking Everything”.
